A former mayor of Dover is in hospital.

The nature and extent of Cllr Veronica “Ronnie” Philpott’s condition has not yet been officially confirmed.

But current mayor and fellow Dover town councillor Neil Rix said: “Ronnie is a very valued councillor and has always been a great contributor to improving life for all in Dover.

“She was very popular during her two terms as mayor.

“We are all sorry to hear she is in hospital and our thoughts are with her and her family.”

Cllr Philpott, was twice Dover’s first citizen, in 2011/12 and 2013/14 and was mayoress from 2009 to 2011.

She is in her 70s, a Labour Party member and a councillor for the Tower Hamlets ward.
