Gang of youths attacks woman in wheelchair

POLICE are hunting a group of teenagers who assaulted a terminally-ill woman in a shop in a Kent town.

The 41-year-old victim, who is wheelchair-bound and suffers from lymphoma, was in Woolworths in Biggin Street, Dover, when the attack happened.

Police believe she may have been the victim of a "happy slapping" attack as the gang of youths - about four boys and two girls - were seen looking at a mobile phone and laughing.

The woman was hit on the back of the head during the incident.

Det Const Becky Brown said: "This was a nasty, unprovoked assault on a defenceless lady in a wheelchair."

The main offender is described as white, aged 14 or 15, of slim build with light, mousey-coloured hair and wearing a grey hooded top.

Anyone with information about this assault - which happened at around 12.45pm on Saturday, December 15 - is urged to contact police on 01304 240055 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
