Dover-born singer Joss Stone is helping to encourage young people to vote in the United States Presidential Election next week - even though she can not vote herself.
She will be singing at Headcount’s “Get out the Vote” party in New York City on Monday, performing her latest single Governmentalist, in which she highlights the lack of accountability in modern government
Joss, who spent the first eight years of her life in Dover, wrote the song as a reaction to criticism from a government official that she received after speaking out against sub-par health care for Iraq war veterans.
The single is now available for free download on www.headcount.org.
“The US election really does impact the entire world,” she said. “While I can’t vote in this country, I want to do what I can to inspire others, especially young voters, to make their voices heard. I can’t think of a better way to release Governmentalist than to partner with a group like HeadCount that actively encourages voting.”
