Community centre managers are celebrating after getting nearly £25,000 in grants in four months.

Just last week St Radigunds Community Centre in Dover was awarded £7,300 from the Awards for All Lottery.

Dover Town Council in March granted £10,000 and and the hall got £7,000 from the Port of Dover Community Fund in May.

Andrew Sanalitro, chairman of the St Radigunds Community Centre Company, said: "Every penny raised makes a big difference to many lives and this money will help us make a greater impact on the community.

"Funders are trusting the people of this area with more new investment."

The £7,000 and £7,300 will go for new under-fives stay and play sessions, paying for staff and equipment, and the £10,000 will pay for refitting the toilets area.

The grants are a further boost to the hall since SCCC, a registered charity, took it over last August and steered it from closure.

Years of financial problems, such as through lack of grant money and repair costs, put the hall at risk.

The new team brought in new management practices, cleared debts and saved money by using volunteers instead of paid staff and managers.

It also vigorously pursued grant applications, particularly sources such as the National Lottery and private funding.

The building, at Poulton Close, was also renamed from the Triangles Community Centre last year.
