Becki Skelton is seeing a surge of interest in her sport following Britain’s runaway Olympic success.
The coach at Dover Gymnastics Club has been bowled over by a rush of applications to join her club following Great Britain’s stunning success, winning seven medals in the sport.
It was part of an overall tally of 67, the second highest Olympic collection of medals by the British team ever, behind the 1908 team which won 146 medals in London.

More than 20 people contacted the club in the seven days up to Thursday last week to inquire about gymnastics classes for their children, and 15 have been added to the waiting list.
The usual level of interest sees an average of five to seven inquiries a week.
Miss Skelton said: “It’s been really positive for the club, and for the current gymnasts as well.
“We’ve seen a lot of enthusiasm and excitement towards the Olympics.
“We’ve even held extra viewing sessions so we can all watch the Olympics together, so it’s been really inspiring for the gymnasts.”
Miss Skelton, 22, from Dover, attended River Primary School and the town’s St Edmund’s RC School.
She has been a gymnast since the age of six and has just completed a degree in primary physical education. She said: “Gymnastics has chosen my career path for me. Other coaches have gone on to do sports coaching, PE teaching, physiotherapy, all of which I imagine have come from their gymnastics.”
Dover Gym Club, based in Poulton Close, is open six days a week and runs classes for all ages including Kindergym, pre-school, general gymnastics, floor and fault, women’s artistic and trampoline gymnastics.
The club is now looking at ways to increase the number of classes it can offer to cope with the rise in demand, as the surge is expected to continue and managers are now even looking for larger premises.
Jon Green, vice-chairman and director at the club, said: “The legacy from London 2012 continues, we just weren’t expecting it to be so sudden this year.
“Our membership increased rapidly after the London Olympics and we’ve continued to add more and more every year.
“We now have 450 doing gymnastics at least once a week.
“Dover Gym Club is going from strength to strength with more members than ever before, and we’re now looking for bigger premises in the Dover and Folkestone areas.”
Dover Gymnastics Club is self-fundraising with no grants from local or central government.
