Lane closed on A256 Whitfield Bypass after accident involving tractor and sheep

A lane has been closed on a key road following an incident involving a tractor and sheep.

The northbound lane of the A256 Whitfield Bypass was shut earlier today after a vehicle carrying animals was involved in a collision.

There is heavy traffic between Richmond Way and Sandwich Road, in an area already hampered by roadworks.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to the A256 Waldershare Roundabout in Dover at 1.08pm following a report of a road traffic collision.

"A tractor with a trailer containing sheep is reported to have been involved in the incident.

"The road was blocked and the sheep were reported to be in the road.

"Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Highways were called to the scene.

"Officers are currently dealing with the incident."

Travel between Eastry and Guston has been affected.
