Properties were left without power after a fire in a garage spread to overhead cables.

Fire crews have put out the blaze at Adelaide Road, Elvington, after it started just after 6.30pm today

The fire damaged fencing near the building and also overhead power cables, causing a loss of power to neighbouring properties.

UK Power Networks engineers have been called to the scene.

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire will be investigated.
