A library is to close for 14 months as part of major improvement plans.
Dover Library in the Discovery Centre, on A256 York Street, will shut from Monday, October 30 until December next year.
It is one of several services in the building set to be improved under the scheme which is being managed by Kent County Council (KCC) and Dover District Council.
Temporary library services, and the registration of births and deaths, will be moved to Dover Gateway around the corner in Castle Street from Monday, November 13 and its opening hours will remain the same.
KCC’s cabinet member for community and regulatory services, Cllr Clair Bell (Con), said: “I am pleased that our aspirations for Dover Library will start to become a reality soon.
“We are making every effort to ensure library customers, and those registering births and deaths, have excellent temporary service provision at the Dover Gateway while we work to make much needed improvements to the Discovery Centre as a whole.
“After extensive engagement with service users, we are confident that the redevelopment plans for Dover Library, and the wider services involved, will be well worth the wait.”
When the Discovery Centre reopens next year, KCC says it will have a range of new services including adult education, Discovery nursery, Dover District Council archive and education service, integrated children’s services (ICS) and the good day programme.
