A2 in Dover closed after motorhome fire

A major route has been closed after a motorhome burst into flames.

The London-bound carriageway of the A2 in Dover is shut after the campervan caught fire between the junctions for the A20 and A258.

Firefighters have now extinguished the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Traffic is being diverted and drivers are being warned to allow extra time for their journeys.

A spokesman for the fire service reported: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a campervan alight on the A2 Jubilee Way, in Dover.

“One fire engine attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames.

“No injuries have been reported.

“People travelling on the London-bound carriageway are advised to check for traffic updates before travelling towards the affected area.”

A National Highways spokesman said: “The A2 is closed westbound between due to a motorhome which has caught fire.

“Traffic is being diverted at the scene.

“Please allow extra journey time if travelling in the area this afternoon.”
