A man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman on Christmas Day.

The alleged victim, a woman in her 20s, told police she was raped in Pencester Court, Dover at 4am on December 25 last year.

Georgel Cornel Hirjanu, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested in Romania on suspicion of the attack.

He was charged yesterday and was remanded in custody until December 4.
