Eight migrants have been found hidden inside a refrigerated lorry.

The Afghans were discovered by British Border Force officials at the Port of Calais.

This was at 2.30am on Sunday and the Home Office says the small lorry was believed to be on its way to Dover.

A UK Home Office spokesman said: "The vehicle was searched and eight people from Afghanistan were found hiding inside.

" They were referred to the French Police Aux Frontière, along with the driver and co-driver who are Romanian nationals."

Both Dover and Calais have dual border controls with British and French officials making checks at both ports.
