A million passengers passed through the Port of Dover during five weeks of disruption caused by Operation Stack.

More than 200,000 cars and 6,000 coaches headed for France between Monday, June 29 and Tuesday, August 4 as Kent's roads were brought to a standstill by disruption at the Port of Calais.

Port of Dover's general manager of strategy and risk management Tim Godden said: “The team at the Port of Dover has been working incredibly hard to deliver our customers to mainland Europe by making sure families make that all-important summer break.

“Amidst an extremely challenging backdrop, the port has stayed open for business throughout and played its part to keep the traffic, Dover and the UK economy moving.”

Mr Godden says the port and its ferry customers have been delivering a reliable crossing and was able to maximise available capacity for the additional traffic, and maintained a first class service.

Each year the Port of Dover and its sister ports in France handle £100 billion of UK and European trade.
