Dover Leisure Centre hopes to tackle physical inactivity in men aged 30 and over living in Dover by launching the Your Time to Move scheme.
This is a national scheme and Your Leisure in Dover has secured funding from Sport England to encourage inactive men to become more involved in sport.
They are focusing on the over 30s, living in St Radigunds, Buckland, Castle, Tower Hamlets and the Town and Pier wards.
Evidence has suggested that there are high levels of inactivity in these areas.
Kevin Fordham, deputy managing director of Your Leisure said: “We are grateful to Sport England and our other local partners in supporting our ambitions to increase participation in sport and physical activity.”
The funding encourages leisure trusts to do things differently and find proactive and resourceful ways to engage groups that haven’t, until now, been interested in sport or exercise.
Your Time to Move is also being supported by Dover District Council, Kent Public Health, Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust and South Kent Coast Clinical Commissioning Group.
The scheme will consist of 90-minute free sessions at Dover Leisure Centre including swimming, football, basketball, circuit training and table tennis.
The sessions will be held on Sunday, February 28 from noon until 2pm, Monday, February 29, from 5pm until 6.30pm, Friday, March 4, from 5pm until 6pm, Tuesday, March 8, from 6pm until 7pm and Friday, March 11, from 5pm until 6pm.
On Tuesday, March 15, there will be a session from 6pm until 7pm and on Friday, March 18, from 7pm until 8.30pm.
The following Tuesday, March 22, from 6pm until 7pm and Tuesday, March 29, at the same time.
The last session will be held on Friday, April 1, from 7pm until 8.30pm.
