DOVER MP Gwyn Prosser is calling for Dover Harbour Board members to sack their chief executive, Bob Goldfield, when they meet tomorrow (Tuesday).
Mr Prosser has written to board chairman Robert Dibble, expressing his concern at the way Mr Goldfield has handled the current dispute with port workers over plans to private their jobs.
Members of the Unite union staged a 48-hour strike last week and have a 72-hour walk out planned for later this week.
Mr Prosser said Mr Goldfield’s actions had undermined all the good work the port had done in recent years to be more transparent, more accountable and to work in closer harmony with the town.
“In the light of recent events, all the fine words and promises made at the board’s public consultation meetings ring hollow,” said the MP.
“In my view, the Chief Executive has shown poor judgement in all these areas. I believe his position is untenable and that’s why I am compelled to support the port workers who are calling for his resignation.”
