Police have said a planned demonstration march by the National Front and counter demonstrations in Dover today is highly likely to cause disruption.

The march is expected to start at Russell Street then proceed along Townwall Street to Dover Eastern Docks where a static protest will be held.

They will then return along Townwall Street into Woolcomber Street and then into St James Street car park where a further static protest will be held.

A spokesman said: “There is likely to be disruption to local roads and access to parking while the procession passes through, and on Townwall Street while the protest takes place at the Eastern docks.

"Access to Dover seafront may be restricted during the afternoon.

“It is anticipated that this will attract larger numbers of protesters than recent demonstrations and there will be extra police officers in the town whose main role is to facilitate a peaceful protest, to keep the public safe and minimise the impact on local people going about their daily business.”

Advice leaflets have been distributed to relevant businesses and areas which may be affected.

A spokesman added: “People interested in spectating the Battle of Britain Memorial Flypast and Air Display taking place over the coast between Folkestone and Dover this Saturday are advised be prepared for the expected disruption in and around Dover seafront and to consider using alternative vantage points.”
