MP Charlie Elphicke has slammed Network Rail (NR) for stalling with plans to build a multi-storey car park at Dover Priory station.
The Tory has claimed that plans for the project were “late running” and this showed the need to look at the way NR delivers its projects.
Plans are expected to be lodged to the district council this April for the car park that will house 500 spaces.
Mr Elphicke said: “We need a new car park at Dover Priory station. Network Rail’s dismal record of failure means this project has been delayed. It is badly needed and Network Rail needs to get a grip.”
“Residents in Dover cannot get a parking space at the station as it’s so full. It makes getting to work and other travel far harder than it should be. It is holding back Dover’s economy.”
Mr Elphicke made his point to the transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin who responded by saying he wanted to address the problem.
“We need to see reform to the way Network Rail delivers infrastructure projects,” said the MP.
“And we need to ensure there are incentives for getting jobs finished well and on time.”
When the Mercury contacted Network Rail for a comment, a press spokeswoman said that they are still working on the plans and will release updates in the future.
