A striking new feature of Dover was unveiled in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

This is the new Marina Pier, opened to the public for the first time on Friday.

It is part of the massive Dover Western Docks Revival redevelopment.

Throughout the weekend visitors were able to walk along the 500-plus metre pier.

It has a small shelter at the end and is next to a curved marina being developed.

Developers the Port of Dover told townspeople on the DWDR Facebook page: "We are still busy working on delivering the wider western docks development, but thought you might like to start enjoying 500+ metres of new promenade with its great views of the harbour, castle and White Cliffs as soon as possible while the rest of the project continues to take shape."

From now on the pier is opened from 7am until 9pm during the summertime and 7am to 7pm during the winter period.

This stage follows the full reopening of Union Street, with its swing bridge, between the A20 Snargate Street and the Esplanade.

The DWDR is expected to be finished by next year.

The next stage is the completion of the refrigerated cargo terminal, and two new deep-water berths, of 250 to 300 metres, by June.

They are expected to be in use sometime from the summer period.

Paving of the marina curve, with access, marina facilities, car parking and paving around the Clock Tower Square, are expected to be completed by June 2020.

The last stage is reclamation of the Tidal Basin and Granville Dock.

DWDR is the single biggest investment ever undertaken by the Port of Dover with about £250 million committed to delivering the first phase.
