Dover Lions Club has chosen a new president for the 50th time, in its 50th year.
Len Button is a retired marine engineer who has been a club member for 33 years.
He has held numerous positions within the club including as president three times before. He will remain in office until the end of next June.
A new leader is chosen annually although there was no chance of an official handover last year because of the pandemic.
It meant that members now got together for a barbecue in a double celebration.
Kevin Finnon had been president from 2018 to 2020 and was replaced by Garry Dixon who now handed the chain of office to Mr Button.
Mr Dixon was in charge during a highly inactive year for the club because of the coronavirus lockdowns.
Mr Button, in his acceptance speech, said he hoped that it wouldn’t be too long before normal activities could be resumed.
.Dover Lions Club was first chartered on June 16, 1971, and 2021 marks 50 years of service and support to countless worthy causes since then, mostly within the Dover area.
The overall Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917 and is the largest service club organisation in the world.
It has 1.42 million members in more than 48,000 branches in more than 200 countries and geographic areas around the globe.
New members are welcome both in the main Dover branch or the Friends of Dover Lions to help in charity fundraising events.
