A key bridge has re-opened after nearly five months of closure and two delays in reopening.
From last Friday the Union Street route in Dover was back in use, seven days earlier than scheduled.
A statement from the Port of Dover website said: "As the works were originally delayed due to the availability of road surfacing contractors, we are pleased to announce that the bridge has re-opened in advance of the revised date of February 4.
"HGV traffic is now encouraged to utilise the Union Street route again, rather than the promenade.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the closure and thank the community for their patience during these works."
The swing bridge, one of only three roads between the A20 Townwall Street and the seafront, originally shut to traffic on September 6 for maintenance and repairs.
It was provisionally meant to close just for 11 weeks, up to November 18.
But the Port of Dover said more work was needed and it would remain shut at least until December 21.
The port authority then announced a second delay, until February 4.
Causes of delay also included a fear of asbestos on the site, which on searching was found not to be there, and difficulty in moving a 200-tonne ballast.
Union Road is busy with traffic and often has lorries coming in and out of the Western Docks cargo terminal.
David Hannent, vice-chairman of Dover District Council and ward member for the area, said: "I am really pleased that the bridge is back in use and I have missed it.
"It is the best way to the seafront because if you have to go via the Jubilee Way area you have to go all around the houses.
"I am at the seafront almost every day and both alternative routes are not as good."
Union Street is the only direct way in and out of the seafront from the A20 Townwall Street.
Wellesley Road takes drivers straight out of the seafront but not in.
To get there via the Premier Inn end of Marine Parade they have to travel hundreds of yards out of their way via the the Jubilee Way roundabout.
