Paper boats will be sailing down part of the River Dour through Dover this weekend.
The annual paper boat race is being organised by the London Road Community Forum.
The event is being held at Pencester Gardens on Saturday and Dover’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sue Jones - who is also a member of the forum committee - will officially start the races at noon.
Anyone of any age can enter, either as individuals or in teams.
"There will be separate races for children and adults," said forum chairman Jeanette Harper.
"People can either bring their own paper boat, or we will provide them with a free one. Entry is £1 per boat whichever way they choose."
Proceeds are being donated to the Pilgrims Hospice. Entries can be pre-booked by calling 01304 205411 or emailing boatrace@londonroad.info
The fastest children’s boat will win a £50 prize with their school getting a shield to keep for a year and there will be other prizes for the adults’ section.
Instructions on one way of making paper boats are included in this week’s Dover Extra, but entrants can use any method they like.
The Kent Messenger Group are the media sponsors for the event.
