FORMER Dover Rowing Club member Henry Pelly has been selected to row for Cambridge in the University Boat Race on Saturday, March 29.
The 24-year-old, whose parents George and Diana live in The Gateway in Dover, started rowing in his last year at Eton College and has represented the Great Britain Junior and U23 teams, and in 2005 won a gold medal for England rowing with Deal’s John Moon in the Home Internatuionals.
While at Newcastle University Henry won a gold medal in the Men’s Double Sculls in the 2006 World University Rowing Championships.
Pelly is now studying Environmental Design in Architecture at Cambridge, and his parents are looking forward to his return to East Kent to again take part in the running of their family business, A & S Self Storage, who are based in Whitfield and Canterbury.
Mrs Pelly said: "Henry was born in Bromley but he is very proud of his East Kent connections, and he is thrilled at the prospect of rowing in the Boat Race."
