Pensioner hurt in hit-and-run horror

POLICE are appealing for information about a hit-and-run accident in Dover in which a pensioner was seriously injured.

The incident happened just before 6am on Friday when a stolen grey Rover Metro was travelling at speed up Roosevelt Road close to the junction with Green Lane.

The Metro failed to negotiate the bend at Whitby Terrace, left the road and struck a 66-year-old man who was out walking his dog.

The male driver and a male passenger ran away from the scene, back down Roosevelt Road. They are described as white men aged in their late teens or early twenties and were wearing baseball caps.

The victim was taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries to his legs.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have seen the Grey Rover Metro, which was stolen from Tower Hamlets Road in Dover last night.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Chris Dyer on 01304 218114.
