A plaque has been unveiled in honour of the life of a 13-year-old boy who died in a rope swing accident.

The ceremony in remembrance of Cagney O’Brien, of The Linces, Dover was attended by close family and friends at Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary, near Folkestone on Saturday.

The site was chosen because of his well known love of all animals, particularly cats.

Cagney died last month after falling from a rope swing attached to a tree on Monks Way on the Buckland Estate.

His mother Danielle O’Brien said: “It is in memory of my son who loved and adored all animals.

"He particularly loved cats - so the Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary seemed like the right place for him to have his plaque.

"At the bottom we put 'Kats Kitty Cats' because that was his little saying and was how everyone knew him."

Danielle also presented the Sanctuary with a cheque for £1,158, which was raised through donations at his funeral and at shops on the Buckland Estate.

She said the pain of his loss does not fade with time.

"It just gets harder. I see him everywhere. If I see a child on a bike I think of him because he used to love riding his bike so much.

"This donation shows how much he was loved. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten."
