A neighbourhood group is feared to end after more than 30 years as there are no replacements for its departing leaders.
Chairman David Hannent and treasurer Adeline Reidy are retiring from the Castle Street Area Society in Dover but nobody has come forward to fill their shoes.
Mr Hannent said in an open letter: "We have decided to retire and can no longer carry on alone.
" The Society is still viable but no one wants to take it on.
" Thus, it is with regret that we are no longer personally able to do the job, are willing to pass over to whoever will, but suspect it will cease.
"We wish you well. Thank you to all who have helped and supported us through the years."
The group is made up of residents and businesses and was formed in 1987.
It has has provided the area's Christmas lights and landscaped flower beds.
It has also arranged clean-ups, put up flags for the summer and winter and maintained flower baskets plus planted a cherry tree at the bottom of Castle Hill.
Over the years it has had local authority and business funding, plus contributions from residents, and Mr Hannent and Mrs Reidy have steered the group as a management duo
Castle Street is seen as a the principal local street, with its history and historic buildings, and is the main thoroughfare from the castle to the town.
Mrs Reidy is particularly known for becoming the first woman Honorary Freeman of Dover in 2018.
This is a symbolic status for someone who has made great contribution to their town but only eight people in Dover have the title.
David Hannent is the current vice-chairman of Dover District Council.
