Police launch investigation

An attack on a youth in Dover early on New Year's Day could have been a racial incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses and an investigation has been launched to determine the motive of the assault, which took place about 1.30am at the junction of Clarendon Road and Folkestone Road.

A witness saw a young man being chased by a group of between seven to 10 people, near the Dover Priory railway station. He told police he lost sight of the runners but shortly afterwards saw the youth laying in the road and the group running away. One ran back and kicked the young man hard before running off again.

The young victim was taken to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, and treated for a head injury. A police spokesman said it was not considered life threatening.

An appeal for witnesses has been made and if anyone can help they are asked to contact South Kent police on 01303 289180.

The young victim has not been named, but it is believed he lived in Folkestone Road.
