Far-right demonstrators were heard shouting “no more refugees” as they marched in Dover today.

Police had warned the planned march by the National Front and counter demonstrations was highly likely to cause disruption.

Officers had lined streets in a bid to keep them under control.

Pictures and videos circulated on social media show the crowds of protesters as well as a high number of officers and vehicles at the scene.

Terry Price witnessed and videoed some of the action.

She said: “They started walking down Castle Street shouting “no more refugees” as I was standing in Russell Street.

“Someone threw a stone out of the window of one of the flats luckily it didn’t hit anyone!

“They all marched off down the road, I can only assume they were heading towards the docks.

"They were very loud but were being controlled by the many police.”

MP Charlie Elphicke shared his opinion of those partaking in the demonstration.

He tweeted: “Fascists in Dover today are not welcome and dirty our town. Well done to Police for keeping them at bay.”

The march started at Russell Street then proceeded along Townwall Street to Dover Eastern Docks where a static protest was held.

They then returned along Townwall Street into Woolcomber Street and then into St James Street car park where another static protest was held.

Advice leaflets were distributed to businesses and areas thought to be most affected.

Police are yet to confirm if any arrests were made.
