Residents were stunned when police swarmed into their street.
Four police cars were confirmed seen in Clarendon Place, Dover, along with a police van and a forensics vehicle.
Police later explained that they were called to a reported assault and one man was arrested.
The peace had been shattered last Sunday evening.
Police were called at exactly 5.49pm and their presence remained as late as 7.30pm.
One male resident, who did not want to be named: “I don’t know what happened but apart from the police cars there was a police van and ambulance.”
Other neighbours did not want to talk to the press but said that someone had been assaulted.
A police spokesman today (Thursday) explained: “Kent Police were called to a report of an assault at a private address in Clarendon Place.
“Officers attended the scene alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service.
“One man, a 39-year-old from Dover, was arrested on suspicion of affray and released pending further enquiries.
“No serious injuries were reported."
