Two people were shot when air gun pellets were fired at cars and passers-by.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in a Dover street and a pedestrian said a shot whistled past her head while she was walking with her partner.
They heard three additional shots.
Police have confirmed the incident and say that no serious injuries were sustained in the apparently indiscriminate shooting at the weekend.
A spokesman said: "We were called at 2.41am on Sunday, July 29 to a report of pellets being fired from an air weapon in the Coombe Valley Road area of Dover.
"Officers attended and carried out a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate anyone responsible.
"Two people reported being hit by pellets but neither were seriously injured.
"Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries into the incident to establish where the shots may have been fired from.
