ONE of the factors which led a young kebab shop owner to end his life was the racial abuse he had suffered, an inquest heard.

Coroner Rachel Redman recorded a verdict of suicide on 27-year-old Garip Aygun, who lived in King Street, Dover.

Mr Aygun moved to Dover from Turkey in 2005 to set up his business with his three brothers. He was found hanging from a tree near Dover Castle in March.

Giving evidence, Mehmett and Ibrahim Aygun, said their brother had become very sad because of work-related stress and racial abuse.

Ibrahim Aygun said: “He had stress because of the customers at the kebab shop. There was a lot of racism. Late-night customers would shout at him.”

The brothers said his state of mind worsened when he returned to Dover after a visit to Turkey to see his sick father.

When he was there he found his family were very poor and when he returned, he discovered his girlfriend had been unfaithful.

Mrs Redman said: “I am satisfied that Mr Aygun intended to end his life.”
