The Rally for Heroes event, which will see a host of vehicles travel across 11 European countries, has just left Dover.

Dover Castle was the historic stop-off point for a group of drivers before leaving England for a 3,000-mile dash across Europe.

The Port of Dover tweeted a picture of the cars before they took boarded their ferry.

The Rally for Heroes event aims to raise £100,000 for the UK’s longest-serving military charity, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).

Benn Laidler, Rally for Heroes co-founder and Army Warrant Officer, said: “The Rally for Heroes organising team and the participants are all volunteers who are drawn to this event by the sheer excitement and adventure of a rally.”

Every five miles of this driving adventure represents the 453 servicemen and women who have died since the start of the conflict in Afghanistan. It will also reflect SSAFA’s role in offering specialist support to families of those who have been killed or injured.
