The Port of Dover Community Regatta has been postponed because of the "ongoing challenges" in Calais.
It announced today that annual event will now take place on Sunday, August 30 instead of Saturday, July 25.
The port's chief executive, Tim Waggott, said: “Our main and genuine concern is the safety and welfare of our community and visitors wanting to enjoy a great day out in Dover.
"We have therefore looked at a later date when we know historically freight traffic is lighter as well as giving more time for the current situation to settle down.”
The Port of Calais was forced to close on Monday due to industrial action headed by MyFerryLink employees.
Motorists have been caught up in the Operation Stack, implemented to control high volumes of traffic waiting to cross the Channel.
Cllr Paul Watkins, Leader of Dover District Council said: “Given the fluid situation in Calais and the potential for more disruption, it makes sense to err on the side of caution.
"We’re pleased that the port is considering the impact on the local community.
"We look forward to hearing more about the port’s plans to expand the regatta on August 30.”
The mayor of Dover, Cllr Christopher J Precious, said: “It was obviously regrettable that the date for Dover’s biggest summer event has had to be changed but we all understand the reasons why and hope that everyone will come and show their support."
