A large pile of rubbish, stacked against the back door of a block of flats has been reported to the police.

Firefighters were called to Colton Crescent at 3.50am but according to a Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman, residents had already chucked a few buckets of water over the blaze.

The crew used a hose reel to fully extinguish the fire.

The spokesman continued: "We have reported it to the police as a suspected ignition."
