Bikes are being security marked at schools in a cycle and road safety push in the district.

Neighbourhood officers, including police community support officers and county council wardens, have been visiting schools to carry out the free security marking and offering free locks, lights and personal attack alarms.

Police spokesman Jon Green said: “They have also given out safety leaflets and advice about staying safe on the roads.”

The boost is part of the Smart Move project set up last year by county council wardens Tony Gander, from St Radigund’s in Dover, and Paul James at Capel.

“Tony and Paul have managed to secure funding from county councillors from the Dover district, Dover Community Safety Partnership, Dover Town Council and the county council’s community safety unit at Maidstone,” said Mr Green.

“Smart Move is an on-going project aimed at raising the awareness and personal safety of young people aged two to 18 years old.”

The team will be at Dover’s community safety day in Pencester Park on Saturday, July 19, where they will be offering free security marking for valuables including bikes, mobile phones, MP3 players and cameras.

Further details can be obtained from county council warden Tony Gander on 07813 712083.
