Rod Stewart sings Sailing before D-Day commemoration ship Boudicca leaves Dover

Pop superstar Rod Stewart entertained veterans on board a cruise ship before it sailed to commemorate D-Day.

Video on Facebook shows him on board the Boudicca singing on deck with three women backing singers.

The four-minute film from passenger Brian Hallado shows him performing his 1975 chart-topper Sailing, backed by a large band.

The superstar appeared on the berthed vessel Sunday, the day before it went on a voyage from the Port of Dover to Normandy.

The Fred Olsen Cruise Lines ship is taking hundreds of D-Day veterans to commemorate tomorrow's 75th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Europe.

A company spokesman: "Rod Stewart only visited Boudicca in Dover for a few hours on Sunday. He did not remain on board."

The liner was chartered by the Royal British Legion for the voyage.

The sailing involved stops at Dunkirk, Poole, and Portsmouth.

Boudicca is following the same path as the ships involved in the Battle of Normandy, which began with the landings on June 6, 1944.
