A “savage and frenzied” abuser stabbed himself in the stomach twice and threatened to frame his girlfriend after she dumped him.

Terry Brooker, from Dover, then strangled her unconscious, sunk his teeth into her nose and threatened to slit her throat after she refused sex.

The roofer unleashed the sickening assault on his partner- repeatedly punching her in the face - moments after she ended the relationship.

Brooker, 40, was jailed for two years and six months at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday, where details of the terrifying ordeal were laid bare.

Brooker’s temper flared after she said she was breaking up with him, the court heard.

“He took the knife and said he would stab himself and make sure her fingerprints were on the weapon," said Eleanor Scott-Davies, prosecuting.

Brooker knifed himself twice in the stomach and, while bleeding out, said: “Come on, let’s go upstairs and have one last night together.”

She tried escaping up the stairs but Brooker gave chase, then squeezed her throat until she fell unconscious.

In a statement read in court, she described waking to find “frenzied” Brooker continuing the onslaught.

“I tried to get his hands off me, and at this point he started punching me in the face," she said.

“I can’t remember how many times he punched me, but it was a lot.

“Terry tried to bite my nose off. His behaviour was like nothing I’d ever seen before. It was like he was in a frenzy."

The court heard Brooker then swallowed a “large amount of medication” and told his partner: “I’m going to slit your throat."

But the bully swiftly blacked out, allowing her to alert the police, who subsequently forced entry into the property.

Brooker was arrested and treated in hospital for three days before admitting the charges of making threats to kill and causing actual bodily harm.

He denied a seperate charge of false imprisonment, which the prosecution asked to lie on file.

Judge Catherine Brown told Brooker his victim had been “effectively trapped in the house with you”.

“This, in my judgement, was an extremely serious episode of domestic violence," the judge said.

“It involved you strangling your partner until she lost consciousness. She could easily have suffered brain damage or worse.

“You were acting like a savage rather than a civilised member of society."

She told Brooker he was “really lucky” he lost consciousness mid-attack, or could be facing “a much more serious charge”.

Dressed in a black t-shirt, bespectacled Brooker could be seen occasionally nodding, as Judge Brown laid down her final remarks.

Kerry Waitt, mitigating, said the defendant had since accepted the relationship was over and planned on moving to Margate upon his release.

He added Brooker, formerly of The Linces, was of previous good character, while the 100 days he has been held on remand has proved “very difficult”.

Mr Waitt said the spell in jail had "increased his motivation and made him recognise the value of his freedom, the value of being drink- and drug-free and the value of walking away from situations.”

The victim has made no request for a restraining order.
