A Border Force worker, who lost both his grandfathers after strokes, will be doing 30 half marathons in 30 days in their memory and to raise awareness
Dan Price, 27, of Cranleigh Drive, Whitfield, will end his challenge by doing the Great North Run on Sunday, September 13.
He is encouraging people to financially back him, with all proceeds going to the Stroke Association who helps those who have suffered and their families.
He said: “My grandad Gethin suffered from strokes for a period of roughly 14 years, passing in June 2013.
'For what he went through and the way he dealt with it all, he will always be a hero and an inspiration to me.' - Mr Price
“My grandad John suffered from heart problems during his life, and passed away from terminal cancer.
“For what he went through and the way he dealt with it all, he will always be a hero and an inspiration to me.
“Right before grandad John passed he also suffered from a stroke.
“The reason I am doing this challenge is quite simple to me, however, crazy for others, and that’s to raise as much money as I can for the Stroke Association.”
The 30 half marathons begin on Saturday, August 15. Of the 30, 29 will be run around Whitfield.
“I will run predominantly on my own, but hopefully family and friends will be joining me,” he said. “They have already been approached so they will have no excuse. My wife, mum, dad and sister are all behind me for this challenge and our extended family.”
Training has already started, but Dan will be upping his game from Sunday, July 12, embarking on longer runs.
He said: “Me doing these runs is just my way of trying to give something back and to honour my grandfathers.
“Whatever the amount may be it will make a difference to help prevent strokes, as I will be raising awareness with family and friends and hopefully the community.”
Dan wants to organise a Sip for Stroke event with family and friends in a bid to raise more cash.
“It will require a lot of help from my family as my baking and tea making skills aren’t the greatest,” he said.
“This will all be a team effort.”
