The A2 was closed in both directions after a car overturned.
This evening, emergency services remained at the scene of the collision at Whitfield, near Dover.
Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the crash, which happened at around 8pm.
Both sides of the A2 were initially closed off between the A260 and Whitfield turn-offs but the Canterbury-bound carriageway has since reopened.
It is understood that a car has flipped over in the collision.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a serious single-vehicle collision on the A2 near Whitfield in Dover at around 8pm."
They confirmed the South East Coast Ambulance was also in attendance following reported injuries.
Motorists were told to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Anyone heading towards the coast was advised to take the A260 to Hawkinge and join the A20 to Dover.
