MOURNERS will gather on Thursday, March 6, for the traditional service in memory of the 193 victims of the Herald of Free Enterprise tragedy.
A service will be held at The Seafarers' Centre at Dover. The Rev Bill McCrae, now based in Southampton, who was closely involved with bereaved families at the time of the car ferry's capsize, will be at the service as will the Rev Norman Setchell and Rev David Potterton, senior chaplain at the society.
The Pilot's Psalm, based on the 23rd Psalm with its first line amended by an unknown sea captain: 'The Lord is my Pilot - I will not drift' will be read by Dover & Deal MP Gwyn Prosser, himself a former merchant navy officer.
Following the service, which is expected to last an hour, relatives will make the ritual journey to the Prince of Wales Pier to cast their floral tributes into the sea in a final act of remembrance.
