Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch signed the visitors' book in a Dover hotel he stayed in last week.
The actor was filming at Dover Castle and stayed at the Ramada Hotel in Singledge Lane, Whitfield for a night.
The actor is starring in a BBC production of The Hollow Crown, where he will play King Richard III.
He stayed at the Dover Ramada Hotel in Singledge Lane, Whitfield, on Wednesday night and signed the visitors’ book, saying he had liked the hotel and thanking the staff.
Hotel sales and marketing manager Trevor Bond, said: “From what he said in the guest book he enjoyed his stay.”
A Dover Castle spokeswoman, Isobel Uden, confirmed that filming was taking place at the castle, but couldn’t say whether the actor was on site.
She told the Mercury: “I can confirm that there is filming taking place at Dover Castle this week until Friday, but I can’t give you any further details I’m afraid. “
She added: “This does not affect the castle’s opening hours as from November - end March (excluding Feb half-term) we are open weekends only.”
