Shocking video clips have shown what are understood to be Christmas trees going up in a raging fire.
The footage was taken along the A258 Deal Road in St Margaret’s at Cliffe last night.
Firefighters were called just before 8.30pm and spent an hour tackling the flames.
Gemma Green, who took the video, believes the foliage to be that of a local Christmas tree seller.
She told KentOnline: “It’s trees next to The Swingate Inn restaurant.
“Sadly, I think they are from a local company.
“It was out of control when we passed it, but two fire engines arrived just after we left.”
The fire service has confirmed the inferno started in a shed and spread to nearby trees.
In the clip, smoke billows over the main road with an orange glow from the fire.
Onlookers watch on as huge flames reach above the trees and close to The Swingate Inn Indian restaurant.
Witnesses on social media say the building was not damaged.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a shed alight in Dover, which then spread to nearby trees.
“Two fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used main jets to extinguish the flames.
“No injuries were reported, and the cause is believed to have started from a faulty electrical socket.”
