The P&O Ferries Choir is preparing to cross the pond and perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York.
The group, who won BBC’s The Choir: Sing While You Work in 2013, have been invited to perform at the venue by composer Paul Mealor who wrote With A Friend Like You, the piece the competing choirs sang in the final of the TV series.
Nik Wickham, who sings in the tenor section, said: “It’s the stuff of dreams. We’ve only been together two years. Our first public performance after the TV series was in Dover Town Hall early last year. And here we are with an invitation to perform at the Carnegie Hall early next year. Never in our wildest dreams did we envisage this.”
Despite the calls from New York, the choir has not given up on their roots and will be performing once again at Dover Town Hall on Saturday, July 11.
The concert is in aid of Martha Trust and will also help towards their trip to New York next year.
It will include classics from Mozart, Elgar and Bruckner, as well as pop covers, gospel, Irish folk songs and some pieces from the popular TV series.
The P&O Ferries Choir will be accompanied by The Vintage Corporation, a nine-piece live band, also from Kent.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets are £10 for adults and £6 for children, available at www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/173185.
