Sponsors for a 160ft bungee jump in London today (Saturday) will fund equipment to help a disabled child to sit up on his own.
Finley Smith, four, of Wingrove Hill in River, has severe brain damage, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and global development delay, all of which are life limiting conditions.
He requires full time care and has physiotherapy every day to help with his tight muscle tone.
He is unable to eat anything orally and is dependent on being fed via a tube and is registered blind.
Parents Lee, 28, and Chloe, 33, said that he needs help with every aspect of life.
They are aiming to raise £800 for a P Pod chair, which will allow their son to sit upright on his own and in comfort.
Mr Smith said: “He was born with CMV which is a virus that my wife contracted unknowingly and it had devastating effects on our son.
“It was not detected during pregnancy so we thought we were having a normal, healthy boy.
“But as soon as he was born it was evident something wasn’t right.”

Today (Saturday), the family are heading to the O2 arena in London where Mr Smith and his step-son Conor, 14, will soar through the sky in a bid to raise at least £800 for the chair.
Mr Smith said: “We only have the basic equipment provided to help support Finley.
“We want to be able to provide essential equipment for him that is not given through the NHS, equipment that will give him a more comfortable and enjoyable life.
“He’s unable to sit on the sofa as he slips down, so this comfy chair is like his own little safe sofa and it gives my wife and I a break from holding him.”
Finley, who has a love for music, has been described as a happy child who responds to the voices of his parents and enjoys being spoken to.
