Dover is the selfie capital of the UK with more than 188,000 taken there in the past year.
The trend is for the photographs to be taken in seaside locations with Penzance, Blackpool and Brighton also making the top 10.
There are no other Kent towns in the top 30.
Noon on a Saturday is when selfies see a surge on social media with more than 130,000 mentions of the hashtag at that time.
Dover takes 834 selfies per 10,000 people, Penzance comes second, with 540, and Manchester third with 535.
The study is by musicMagpie, a website for the buying and selling of goods such as CDs, DVDs, phones and books.
The group found that the south of England dominates the selfie trend, making up 50% of the top 30.
Communities in the north of England make up just seven of the top 20, and those in the Midlands only three.
But the researchers also believe that at least the hashtag selfie trend is in decline.
When they compiled data on how frequently #Selfie is being used on Twitter and Instragram they found that only 797,000 posts were shared by Britons last March.
That is compared with 1.34 million in April 2016, representing a fall of just over 40% in a year and 546,000 less selfies shared.
Use of the tag fell by 20% between the start and end of summer 2016 alone.
musicMagpie believes people could be getting bored with applying so many hashtags every time they post.
Instagram continues to report a healthy increase in users so the researchers do not believe that people are giving up on social media altogether.
They think that if the trend is not in itself declining it could be that the selfie has become such a staple of 2017 that people don’t feel the need to hashtag.
