Two sets of street stalls are coming back as lockdown easing continues.

Dover Town Team returns the Saturday Market from June 5 from 9am to 4pm.

It will supplement the existing Dover Bluebirds stalls in Market Square on Tuesdays, which is also run by the local businesses group.

Once a month the Saturday Market will run alongside the Student Makers Market.

The latter is from a separate group which comes back this Saturday, from 10am to 5pm, at St James' Retail and Leisure Park at first and on following dates in Market Square.

Town Team chairman John Angell said: “We hope this will boost footfall in the town centre and help shops, bars and restaurant.

"They have had a difficult time in the last year keeping their business going under Covid restrictions.”.

Mr Angell stressed that the markets would all comply with Covid regulations.

Dover Student Makers Market was designed by town-based Future Foundry to enable local young artists, designers and makers to start businesses and sell their products directly to the public,

Young people aged 16 to 30, not just students, are supplied with free gazebos, tables and training to earn money from their creativity.

Emma Sikora started her design business there in 2016 and is now one of the market managers.

She said: ‘The Dover Student Makers Market teaches young makers, they can build their own career, especially if they’re struggling to find work or lost their job during lockdown."

Funding from the Government's Culture Recovery Fund, again in response to the pandemic, will also enable Future Foundry to re-open its Creative Start Up Space at Biggin Hall.

This is where it runs its training programmes and supply event space, studio space and equipment for young creative people.
