Home buyers in the Dover district will pay £624 less in Stamp Duty under new coalition reforms according to research conducted by the Liberal Democrats.
The party has said that the average buyer in Dover District experience a tax decrease from £1,876 to £1,252.
The new system - announced at the Autumn Statement - is based on a long-standing Lib Dem policy and is said to “significantly reduce” the cost of moving house.
People buying homes worth less than £935,000 will pay less Stamp Duty than they did before, while those buying the most expensive properties will pay more.
It means families buying a home costing £187,614, the local average, will save £624.
Lib Dem candidate for the district, Sarah Smith, said: “Stamp Duty has often been a prohibitive extra cost which has discouraged many people from buying a house they can call their own.
“This reform will help first-time buyers and those young families who desperately want to move into a larger home.
“It’s fair, it’s sensible, and it has been a long-standing Liberal Democrat policy - one we have now delivered in government.
“This change will help families and individuals realise the aspiration of owning a home.”
