Star pianist to play at Kent school

AN internationally acclaimed Italian pianist will be flying to Britain especially to perform a recital in Kent.

Pierpaolo Levi will head the concert at Dover Grammar School for Boys on Thursday January 17 as part of the school’s fine arts series.

The series of events, where well known musicians perform at the school, has been organised by A level music students.

Thursday’s performance will see a recital by Mr Levi on the Steinway concert grand piano in the school hall.

James Dawkins is one of the organisers. He said: "I’m hoping he will be giving a demonstration in an assembly for the whole school."

Director of Music at the school, Charles Spanner said: "It is a credit to the sixth form students at the school for organising this."

Pierpaolo Levi won acclaim in 1989 when he took first prize at the international Master for Pianists devoted to Franz Listzt and he frequently gives recitals in France and Great Britain. One several occasions, has performed the complete series of Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsodies.

The recital, on Thursday January 17, begins at 7.30pm. Entry is £5 for adults or £2 for children.

The next fine art concert will include a harp recital by Helen Arnold in April.
