Flying Horse Lane in Dover closed amid fears building at risk of collapse

A narrow street has been fenced off amid fears a building near a town centre pub is at risk of collapse.

Flying Horse Lane in Dover is closed in both directions this afternoon.

Images sent to KentOnline show the property appears to be tilting precariously outwards and in the direction of the street.

Contractors were spotted putting two metal barriers in place due to fears of bricks falling onto the road.

Shepherd Neame's Lord Nelson pub is a few metres down from the property.

General manager Dan White says the issue has only arisen in the last few hours.

The 49-year-old Eastry resident, who is due to release the pub’s new menu in the coming weeks, said: "I came to work at about 11am and saw a cordon was being put in place in the lane at midday.

"Workers showed me the building and I was like 'wow'.

"Even in the last hour or so it looks like it has moved and bricks could fall.

"Customers come from Flying Horse Lane so closing it is the right thing to do.

"The building has been empty for quite a few years."

Both Kent Police and Dover District Council have been approached for more information.
