Volunteers have signed up to a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Tower Hamlets, Dover.

Lots of volunteers for a new Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Tower Hamlets have come forward to help keep the area safe.

Resident, Augusta Pearson, of Branch Street, shared the news at the annual general meeting of the Tower Hamlets Forum on Wednesday last week at Curzon Hall.

Chairman of the forum, Chris Tyler said: “It was a well attended, positive meeting.

“There was an item on the agenda regarding Neighbourhood Watch. Some members present were interested in taking this forward, and this is already being actively followed up.”

There were reports from community warden Alison Beaumont, PCSO Mark Ball and councillors, as well as a presentation from Dover District Council on littering.

Mrs Pearson, who is eager for the Neighbourhood Watch scheme to get up and running said: “I feel very confident that we’re going to be a worthwhile group, make people feel safe and start doing something for the community. So many people moan and groan about Dover. Before it can have anything, it’s got to have community spirit.”

Mrs Pearson said that her main concerns was dog poo and littering, and explained she was calling for more dog bins to be placed in the area.

She said the meeting was extremely positive.

Mrs Pearson added that it was a shame the Mayor of Dover could not attend.

The next meeting of the forum will be on January 21, and the group plans to hold a community engagement day at The Ark, Noah’s Ark Road, Dover, in February half-term.

It will also be looking to apply for grants to carry out projects in the area covered by the ward.
