Making fudge from home is Steve Timms’ living – and an insight into his lifestyle has been filmed by the BBC.
Mr Timms, who is known as The Fudge Man, was featured in a BBC food show called James Martin: Home Comforts which was aired this afternoon.
Mr Timms, 60, of Queen’s Gardens, Dover, spends his working day at home in front of the cooker making fudge “the way your grandma used to”.
He uses the basic ingredients of sugar, butter and milk, adding a simple flavouring or nuts to the mix.
The Fudge Man was contacted by the BBC after entering the Great Taste Award in 2013. He was given a two-star rating and featured in a food magazine.
On July 26, last year, the crew filmed him making and selling his homemade fudge to people at the Port of Dover Regatta, a Mercury-sponsored event.
The programme sticks with Steve’s business for 15 minutes out of a half-hour slot.
Mr Timms’ small business is mainly online-based and many of the cruise passengers visiting Dover often taste his product at the Bluebirds market in Market Square – just one of the many fairs and markets where he sells the fudge.
It is then that people go home and order batches to be sent overseas. He said: “My fudge has been all around the world, from Australia, to America and European countries.
