A traffic management scheme has been implemented along the A20 near Dover due to heavy freight volumes.
The Dover Traffic Access Protocol (TAP) is designed to prevent Portbound traffic from disrupting the local road network.
It forces lorries to use just one lane of the A20 allowing everyday traffic to pass through in the other lane.
All road users must adhere to a 40mph speed restriction if approaching the port and town.
Kent Highways announced the measure via Twitter shortly before 2pm.
It is the first of five stages comprising Operation Brock, designed to maintain traffic flow in the county during busy freight periods.
It will run until the number of HGVs is deemed sustainable.
